About me: Travelmania

Travelling is one of my biggest passions. Discovering new places, meeting new people, dealing with cultural differences: It really opens my eyes.

But travelling is more than meeting other people and places. It enriches your world, it teaches you history and it creates awareness of the differences in society. And last but not least, travelling is spending time with yourself. It can be one the best ways to escape your daily stress and to reflect on the things that are really important in your life.

I was fascinated by travelling since I was a little kid. I loved my family’s camping holidays  in France. When I was eight, I was so excited the day before we went on one of our holidays, that I packed my bags and dressed up getting ready for the big trip – in the middle of the night! (Yes, indeed, I was sleep walking). Since that day, it became clear that travelling was part of me. And still, packing my bags really excites me.

I have made different and interesting journeys in my life: from family vacations and city trips to travels around the world; from exclusive stayovers in five stars hotels to very basic living conditions on 4100m in the Andes; from active cycling and walking holidays in Europe to lazy days and snorkeling on the beaches of South East Asia. I love variety in life, also when it comes to travelling.

I was not only fascinated by travelling, but also about storytelling. I found out that the best recommendations are usually coming from friends or friends of friends or people you know. So why don’t we collect these stories and communicate the best practices? We can inspire eachother by telling (or writing) stories and help one another getting started with a nice trip.

This site doesn’t give you a complete overview of travel destinations (like Lonely Planet or regular travel guides do). Instead, it makes a selection of useful tips which are being regularly added and updated. The focus of this blog is on local accommodations and initiatives, because that’s the way we like it:  You meet people,  get to know the culture of the place you are visiting and contribute to local economic development.

The articles are written not only by me, but by friends and other people who are at least as addicted to travelling as I am. We all share their best experiences with you, so you might get inspired or get some useful tips from this site.

Would you like to share your best experiences with others? Don’t hesitate to contact Traveljockey. Good writers are wanted for this blog: mail.traveljockey[at]gmail.com

Hope to hear from you,

Leontien
